1 Here I wan­der in need of the things of this life,
Asking help of the great world­ly throng;
But alone I must strug­gle to stand in the strife,
While my heart sings aloud this sweet song.

2 I could not go alone with­out Je­sus my king,
For the way is so rug­ged and steep;
But when He is along I look up­ward and sing,
