109. Only a Word for the Master

1 Only a word for the Master,
Lovingly, quietly said;
Only a word! yet the Master heard,
And some fainting hearts were fed.

2 Only a look of remonstrance,
Sorrowful, gentle and deep;
Only a look! yet the proud man shook,
And he went alone to weep.

3 Only some act of devotion,
Willingly, joyfully done;
Surely 'twas naught "so the proud world tho't,"
Yet souls for Christ were won.

4 Only an hour with the children,
Pleasantly, cheerfully giv'n;
Only an hour, yet the seed was sown,
Which will bring forth fruit for heav'n.
