Text: | O Christ, Our True And Only Light |
Author: | J. Heermann |
Translator: | Catherine Winkworth |
Tune: | BRESLAU |
1 O Christ, our true and only Light,
Illumine those who sit in night;
Yea, let them hear Thy pleading voice
And in Thy fold with us rejoice.
2 O let Thy grace, that light divine,
For erring souls in brightness shine;
Help those whom in their secret minds
Some dark delusion haunts and blinds.
3 And all who else have strayed from Thee
Do Thou reclaim, and let them be
In conscience made both pure and whole;
May heaven be their final goal!
4 O cause the deaf Thy Word to hear,
And cure the dumb from coward fear,
Who dare not yet the faith avow,
Tho' secretly they hold it now.
5 Restore the blind and warm the cold,
Bring back the straying to Thy fold,
Let not the scattered stand apart,
Confirm the weak and doubting heart.
6 May they with us Thy name adore
And thank Thee, Lord, for evermore.
Let all Thine own exalt Thy love
On earth and in their home above.
