Composer: Benjamin Shute

Benjamin Shute (b. 1984, Wilmington, Delaware, USA) studied at the New England Conservatory and the Musikhochschulen of Freiburg and Frankfurt. Since 2022 he lives in Fife, Scotland, and teaches at the University of St Andrews, remaining active as a violinist specialising in historical performance practices of the 17th to 20th centuries. In addition to instrumental and vocal compositions, he is the author of the books Sei Solo: Symbolum? The Theology of J. S. Bach’s Solo Violin Works (Pickwick, 2016) and The Harmonic Violinist (Oxford University Press, forthcoming), reconstructions of J. S.
