William Flavell Hurndall was born July 10, 1830 at Basingstoke, England. He was the son of a minister. He was educated at Bonn University, Freidrich Wilhelms University Berlin, Glasgow University and Heidelberg University. He worked as a Congregational minister and later as headmaster.
