Muir, Alexander. (fl.1867) Wrote and published "The Maple Leaf Forever" in 1867, just after Confederation, before Canada had taken in any territory where maple trees will not grow. He was principal of an elementary school in Toronto, Ontario, which was later renamed in his honor.
