Soldier, rouse thee! War is raging,
God and fiends are battle waging—
Every ransomed pow’r engaging,
Break the tempter’s spell.
Dare ye still lie fondly dreaming,
Wrapt in ease and worldly scheming,
While the multitudes are streaming
Downwards into hell?
The first four lines of this tune constitute the Common Metre hymn tune HARLECH; a transcription of the melody and the most commonly found English lyrics of the martial folk tune are given in the Digital Tradition: MEN OF HARLECH (a Welsh text and translation are here).
