Representative Text

1 With flaming banners gleaming bright,
Awakes each hill and mountain height;
Away the shadows swiftly flee,
To hail the dawn of victory.

Chorus:
Victory! victory!
Let earth and heaven ring
With victory! victory!
Thro’ Christ our Savior King!
Victory! victory!
Your notes or triumph raise;
Unto the Lord all-glorious
Be everlasting praise.

2 Responsive earth her treasure yields
In blooming vales, and verdant fields,
While rippling over land and sea
Ring out the notes of victory. [Chorus]

3 The trumpet-call sounds loud and long,
And earth reechoes with the song
Of captives, long in chains, set free,
The glorious song of victory. [Chorus]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
