God Is Watching Over Me

Representative Text

1 When my way is over-shadowed
And no gleam of light I see,
Evermore my heart keeps saying;
"God is watching over me."

Chorus:
Over me! Over me!
God is watching over me!
Oh the blessedness of knowing
God is watching over me.

2 There is not a single moment
Of the day or of the night,
But His watchful eye is on me--
I am precious in His sight. [Chorus]

3 When I see the stars at Ev'ning,
Twinkling in the heav'nly dome,
I rejoice that He who made them
In His thought for me hath room. [Chorus]

4 O what gracious, tender tokens
Of His love to me He sends,
Like a breath of angels' pinions,
Like the touch of unseen hands! [Chorus]

5 Not for all the pearls of ocean,
Not the gold from ev-ry mine,
Would I lose my place of shelter
In His love and care Divine. [Chorus]

Author: Thomas O. Chisholm

Thomas O. Chisholm was born in Franklin, Kentucky in 1866. His boyhood was spent on a farm and in teaching district schools. He spent five years as editor of the local paper at Franklin. He was converted to Christianity at the age of 26 and soon after was business manager and office editor of the "Pentecostal Herald" of Louisville, Ky. In 1903 he entered the ministry of the M. E. Church South. His aim in writing was to incorporate as much as Scripture as possible and to avoid flippant or sentimental themes.
