Merrick, James , M.A., was born in 1720, and educated at Oxford, where he became a Fellow of Trinity College. He entered Holy Orders, but his health would not admit of parish work. He died at Reading, 1769. His publications include:— (1) Messiah, a Divine Essay. 'Tis enough, the hour is come. J. Merrick. [Nunc Dimittis.] This paraphrase of the Nunc Dimittis was published in bis Poems on Sacred Subjects, 1763, p. 13, in 22 lines. As given in Kennedy, 1863, No. 185, some of the lines are transposed, and the whole are expanded into 3 stanzas of 8 lines.
