1 There is a place to Christians dear,
To Calv’ry’s hill ‘tis very near;
O suff’ring One, ‘twas more to Thee,
The garden of Gethsemane.
Refrain:
O spot divine, so dear to me,
Where Jesus bled in agony;
When burdens seem too great for thee,
Go, friend, to your Gethsemane.
2 When sorrow’s heaviest, friends may sleep,
Your aching heart the lone watch keep;
When morning brings too much for thee,
Your cup take to Gethsemane. [Refrain]
3 Then troubled heart, do not despair,
Tho’ dark the night, come here in pray’r;
For any task you’ll strengthen’d be
Thro’ pray’r in our Gethsemane. [Refrain]
4 For joy that is before you then,
Go to your cross, despise its shame;
In worlds unending you shall be
Like Jesus of Gethsemane. [Refrain]
