Representative Text

1 The King has called for volunteers,
To take a pardon from His hands—
A pardon bo’t with His own blood—
Across the seas to hostile lands;
He hastes to send this message true,
The King needs you, the King needs you.

2 The way is hard, opposing hosts
Withstand the messengers of peace;
And hold with tightest grip, the souls
They fain would keep from their release;
Who’s not afraid to dare and do?
The King needs you, the King needs you.

3 Then raise the Royal Standard high,
And call on all who own His right,
To follow where their Captain leads,
Amid the thickest of the fight—
To turn defeat, to battle thru,
The King needs you, the King needs you.

4 Above the sound of hurrying feet
As volunteers come crowding in,
The King’s own voice assigns to each
The only post where he may win,
Then take your place, be brave and true,
The King needs you, the King needs you.
