1 The church of God from heaven came,
Jesus, her glorious Founder,
Hath dressed her in celestial robes,
Girded His truth around her,
Clothed her in wonderful beauty,
Taught her the pathway of duty,
Keeps her each moment securely,
Her foes He casts down to the ground.
2 As wide as earth her boundary,
Upward she reaches to heaven,
The favor of the Lord is hers,
Freely in love ’tis given;
Thus by His mercy securing,
Heritage ever enduring,
God by His promise assuring
That she shall forever prevail.
3 The pillar and the ground of truth,
Built without hand of a mortal;
No man with heart by sin defiled
Standeth within her portal;
None but the pure and the holy,
Humble, and meek, and the lowly,
Dwell in the light of her glory,
The Lord is her Judge and her King.
