1 قد مضى دهر لفادٍ
خبزُه المحيي كسرْ
سَنّ هذا الخبزَ سراً
فاحفظوا هذا الأثرْ
مَن يمَيزْه يذقهُ
ذاكراً فادي البشرْ

2 طالما كانت ظلاماً
أرضنا طول المدى
حين لم يُسمع بحق
مِن لدى راعٍ هدى
كان هذا الرمز يُنبي
عن فِدى رب الفدى

3 حاملي اسم الرب أبدوا
صدقَ إيمانٍ يُعَدْ
اكسروا واتحدوا في
جسدٍ خبزاً أحدْ
كلكم أعضاءُ رأسٍ
واحدٍ فوق جسدْ

4 أقبلوا واشتركوا في
سرِّ رمزٍ يُمتلكْ
وكلوا حق طعامٍ
لم يمُت حيث سلكْ
يا محبُّ اشهد بهذا
أن ذي الأنفسَ لكْ

Josiah Conder was born in London, in 1789. He became a publisher, and in 1814 became proprietor of "The Eclectic Review." Subsequently to 1824, he composed a series of descriptive works, called the "Modern Traveller," which appeared in thirty volumes. He also published several volumes of poems and hymns.
