Representative Text

1 Press onward with rejoicing!
The conflict may be long,
Raise high the royal standard!
His grace will make you strong.

Chorus:
Press onward, onward, with the cross on high,
Press onward, onward, victory is nigh;
Press onward, onward, with his banner go,
Press onward, onward to conquer ev'ry foe.

2 Where Jesus leads we'll follow,
In armor bright arrayed,
March on with songs of triumph!
Trust God! Be not afraid! [Chorus]

3 His cross is lifted o'er us,
His kingdom draweth nigh;
The Lord is out salvation,
His glory fills the sky. [Chorus]

Author: Lizzie DeArmond

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
