Representative Text

1 Onward press, tho’ faint and weary,
Droop not ‘neath the parching sun,
Onward thro’ the desert dreary,
Till the day is won;
Tho’ by feet be worn and bleeding,
Ne’er the narrow pathway leave,
Thro’ thy Savior’s interceding,
Thou shall rest at eve.

Refrain:
Rest on the beautiful shore,
Where no sorrow thy breast can heave,
Yes, on the bright beautiful shore,
Thou shall rest at eve,
Thou shall rest at eve.

2 Duties wait for the fulfilling,
Let thy full strength go to each,
With an earnest heart, and willing,
Labor, pray, and teach;
Falter not beneath thy burden,
Jesus’ precious word believe,
Faith presents the promised guerdon,
Thou shall rest at eve. [Refrain]

3 Tho’ the promise long may tarry,
And the way seems dark and drear,
Gloomy doubts and fears still parry,
Night will soon be here;
Saved ones wait beyond the river,
They no longer sin or grieve,
With them, in the bright forever,
Thou shall rest at eve. [Refrain]
