Work for All to Do

1 O! this world is intended for working,
Not for wishing, but pushing along;
And our duty we would not be shirking,
Yet we’ll lighten our labor with song.

O! there’s work for us all to do,
In the place where God has set us,
For ourselves and others too,
While our time and strength will let us.

2 There are plenty of wrongs to be righted,
Many foul things want sweeping away,
Many dark places need to be lighted,
And the time to begin is today. [Refrain]

3 O! this world is intended for gladness,
Not for poverty, suff’ring and wrong,
Let us root out the causes of sadness,
Until weeping is changed into song. [Refrain]

4 Let us press t’wards the goal of the Master,
A world that’s unselfish and kind;
Would to God we were all moving faster,
And that none were found lagging behind. [Refrain]
