O Lebenswort! wer dankt genug

Representative Text

1 O Lebenswort! wer dankt genug,
Daß Du im Fleisch gekommen,
Und nach der Liebe tiefstem Zug
Das Knechtsbild angenommen!
Du schämtest Dich der Sünder nicht,
Gingst selber für sie ins Gericht
Und starbst für ihre Sünden.

2 Kein Mensch dies Wunder fassen kann,
Kein Engel kann's verstehen.
Der Glaube schaut's und betet an,
Bewundert, was geschehen.
Drum sei Dir unser Lob geweiht,
Denn Dir, dem Herrn der Herrlichkeit,
Lob, Ehr' und Ruhm gebühret.
