O here if ever God of love

O here if ever God of love

Author: Emily Taylor
Published in 54 hymnals

Representative Text

O, here, if ever, God of love!
Let strife and hatred cease;
And every thought harmonious move,
And every heart be peace.

Not here, where met to think of him
Whose latest thoughts were ours,
Shall mortal passions come to dim
The prayer devotion pours.

No, gracious Master, not in vain
Thy life of love hath been;
The peace thou gav’st may yet remain,
Though thou no more art seen.

Thy kingdom come! we watch, we wait,
To hear thy cheering call;
When heaven shall ope its glorious gate,
And God be all in all.

NAOMI (Nägeli)

NAOMI was a melody that Lowell Mason (PHH 96) brought to the United States from Europe and arranged as a hymn tune; the arrangement was first published in the periodical Occasional Psalm and Hymn Tunes (1836).
