O God, to me be merciful

O God, to me be merciful

Published in 3 hymnals

Representative Text

1 O GOD, to me be merciful,
be merciful to me:
Because my soul for shelter safe
betakes it self to Thee.
Yea in the shadow of thy wings
My refuge I have plac'd.
Until these great calamities
be wholly overpast.

2 I'll cry aloud to GOD most high,
till heard my cry shall be;
Ev'n to the God who still performs
all things most fit for me.
3 From heav'n will He send down, and me
from their reproach defend,
Who wou'd defour me: GOD will forth
His truth and mercy send.

4 My soul amidst fierce lions is,
I fire-brands lie among;
Men's sons whose teeth are darts and spears,
and like sharp swords their tongue.
5 Above the lofty heav'ns do Thou
exalt thy self O GOD:
O let thy glory be advanc'd
o'er all the earth abroad.

[2 Part]

6 They for my steps prepar'd a net,
My soul wass bowed down:
They dig'd a pit for me; but they
In midst thereof are thrown. (Selah)
7 My heart fix'd, my heart is fix'd;
O GOD, I'll sing and praise:
8 Awake my glory, psalt'ry, harp,
my self I'll early raise.

9 Thy praise, O Lord, will I proclaim
among the people round:
Among the nations I with songs
thy praises will resound.
10 For great thy rising mercy spreads,
ev'n to the heav'ns on high;
And equally thy truth extends
up to the cloudy sky.

11 Above the lofty heav'ns do Thou
exalt thyself O GOD!
And let thy glory be advanc'd
o'er all the earth abroad.
