O God, thou art my God, I will

O God, thou art my God, I will

Published in 3 hymnals

Representative Text

1 O GOD, Thou art my God, I will
betimes for thee enquire.
My soul does thirst and long for Thee;
My flesh for Thee desire.
2 As in a dry and weary land
wherein no waters are;
To see, as in thy house I've seen
Thy pow'r and glory there.

3 Because thy loving-kindness more
In goodness doth excel,
Than life it self, therefore my lips
thy praises forth shall tell.
4 Thus I'll Thee bless continually,
while yet alive I am;
And I these hands of mine on high
will lift up in thy name.

5 With marrow and with fatness fill'd
my longing soul shall be;
And then my mouth with joyful lips
will render praise to Thee.
6 When Thee I to remembrance call,
as on my bed I lie,
In watches of the silent night;
then on Thee muse do I.

7 Calling to mind, how thou hast been
a constant help to me;
I'll in the shadow of thy wings
rejoice exceedingly.
8 My longing soul yet follows hard,
and closely cleaves to Thee;
And Thou with thy right hand of pow'r
in love upholdest me.

9 But who my soul seek to destroy,
go down the pit shall they;
10 Some slain by swords, their carcasses
shall be the foxes prey.
11 Yet shall the King in GOD rejoice:
All they that by HIM swear
In HIM shall glory: but their mouths
be stop'd that liars are.
