Notes

Now the stars are lit in heaven. J. Keble. [Evening.] Appeared in the British Magazine, March, 1834, as one of five hymns entitled, "Lighting of Lamps." It was re-published in Lyra Apostolica, 1836, in 5 stanzas of 6 lines, and again in the author's posthumous Miscellaneous Poems, 1869, p. 19. In the Wellington College Hymn Book, 1860, and later editions, stanza iii is omitted.
