1 Met again in Jesus’ name,
At His throne we humbly bow.
He is evermore the same:
Lo! He waits to meet us now.

2 In His name, if two or three
Meet, and for His mercy call,
"There," the Savior saith, “I’ll be
In the midst, to bless you all.

3 "You shall never ask in vain,
Though your number be but few:
Firm the promise doth remain;
Lo! I always am with you."

4 Savior, we believe the word;
Calmly wait the promised grace.
Spirit of our risen Lord,
Holy Spirit, fill the place!

Author: John Pyer

Pyer, John, of Welsh descent, and formerly spelt. Pyer was born at Bristol. Dec. 3, 1790. In 1803 he joined the Methodist Society, and subsequently became for a short time a local preacher in that connexion. He was then engaged for some time in what was known as "The Tent Mission." This evangelical work led him in 1830 to join the London City Mission. In 1834 he became pastor of a Congregational chapel at South Molton, Devon, and later he held similar charges at Cork, and at Devonport, where he died April 7, 1859. His hymns include "Met again in Jesus' Name" (Beginning of Service). His Memoirs, by his daughter, Mrs. K. P.
