Lord of every land and nation, Ancient of eternal days

Lord of every land and nation, Ancient of eternal days

Author: Robert Robinson (1774)
Tune: ALLELUIA (Lowe)
Published in 39 hymnals

Representative Text

1 Lord of ev’ry land and nation,
“Ancient of eternal days,”
Sounded through the wide creation
Be Thy just and lawful praise.

Refrain:
Alleluia, Alleluia,
Alleluia! Amen.

2 Brightness of the Father’s glory,
Shall Thy praise unuttered lie?
Shun, my tongue, the guilty silence,
Sing the Lord who came to die. [Refrain]

3 From the highest throne in glory
To the cross of deepest woe,
All to ransom guilty captives;
Flow, my praise, for ever flow. [Refrain]

4 Come, return, immortal Saviour;
Come, Lord Jesus, take Thy throne;
Quickly come, and reign for ever,
Be Thy kingdom all Thine own. [Refrain]

Renatus Sabbati die, Maii 24, 1752, per predicationem potentem Georgii Whitefield. Et gustatis doloribus renovationis duos annos mensesque septem, absolutionem plenam gratuitamque, per sanguinem pretiosum i secula seculorum. Amen." He soon after began to pr… Go to person page >
