Little soldiers of the King, We'll enlist today

Little soldiers of the King, We'll enlist today

Author: Lizzie DeArmond
Tune: [Little soldiers of the King]
Published in 1 hymnal

Audio files: MIDI

Representative Text

1 Little soldiers of the King,
We’ll enlist today;
In the army of the Lord,
Promise to obey.

Refrain:
Little soldiers, all our best we gladly bring,
For truth and right we, too, will fight
In the army of the King.

2 Little soldiers, though so small,
Soon will larger grow;
Walking in the narrow way,
More of him we’ll know. [Refrain]

3 Little soldiers of the King
Turn us not aside;
Willingly his blessed Word
In our hearts we’ll hide. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
