Representative Text

1 Let the nations all rejoice and sing,
Let them now exalt their rightful King,
Till the distant climes of all the earth
Shall be glad in a Saviour’s birth.

Refrain:
Sing His praise, all ye lands,
Sing His praise, all ye lands;
Over all the earth let the joyful tidings ring:
Praise the name of the Saviour King.

2 O’er the eastern hills the light appears,
Hail the morning star of peaceful years;
‘Tis the Promised One so long foretold,
‘Tis the Saviour we now behold. [Refrain]

3 Come, ye saints of God, your voices raise,
Let the earth be vocal with His praise;
Let the floods and fields, the hills and plains,
Tell with joy that the Saviour reigns. [Refrain]

4 Lo! afar extends Messiah’s sway,
And benighted lands rejoice today;
For His rule shall reach from pole to pole,
And the nations His name extol. [Refrain]

19th Century "Robert Lowe Fletcher, the composer, will be at the South Avenue Congregational Church to-morrow, In the morning he will speak on 'The Conservative Life" and at night he will conduct an old-fashioned gospel singing service, when he will use some of his own compositions. Mr. Fletcher will ask the audience to assist him in the singing. Mr. Fletcher is an interesting person, and it is expected that he will attract a large number of strangers to the South Avenue Church." --from The Post-Standard, Syracuse, NY, 26 November 1910 Go to person page >
