Lead on, O Lord, above the new year's gates

Lead on, O Lord, above the new year's gates

Representative Text

1 Lead on, O Lord!
Above the New Year's gates
That stand so wide ajar,
Thy holy Word
In sweetest message states
The promise of the star.
The manger lowly tells the story,
The mighty heavens sing Thy glory:
Lead on, O Lord!

2 Lead on, O Christ!
Thy name in beauty gleams
Before our longing eyes.
What Thou hast won
In richest fullness streams
And time and death defies;
The gracious fountain of Thy pleasure
Is ours to quaff in richest measure:
Lead on, O Christ!

3 Lead on, our King!
By Thine almighty pow'r
We ev'ry foe defy.
The heavens ring
In praise of Thee, our Tow'r,
Our Fortress safe on high.
Thine everlasting arms sustain us,
In fears and fightings e'er maintain us:
Lead on, our King!

4 Lead on, O Lord!
Take Thou us by the hand
And safely lead the way
To that reward,
The glorious Fatherland,
Where we fore'er shall stay
Enjoying heaven's richest treasure,
Poured out on us in fullest measure:
Lead on, O Lord!
