Representative Text

1 Keep in the ranks, since you have chosen
To be a soldier of the King;
His mighty army is moving forward,
To Him a conquered world to bring.
Keep in the ranks, and, strong and steady,
Be ready both to do and dare,
That when in triumph they shout “Hosanna!”
You in the victory may share.

Refrain:
Keep in the ranks, that you may not fall,
That the onward march may not be broken;
March surely, one and all,
“Forward” is the word the King has spoken;
Keep in the ranks till the fight is done,
Only a united host can conquer;
Keep in the ranks¸ keep in the ranks,
Until the victory is won.

2 Keep in the ranks: let nothing tempt you
To loiter idly by the way;
The hosts in triumph are sweeping onward,
And nothing can their progress stay.
Keep in the ranks, that you may enter
Into the thickest of the fight,
Nor craven cower, in danger’s hour,
When evil wars against the right. [Refrain]

3 Keep in the ranks, and do your duty;
Be ready ev’ry foe to meet;
Count loyal service the highest honor,
Nor drag along with laggard feet.
Keep in the ranks; for Christ is leading,
And “Forward” is the battle-cry;
The vanguard utters a loud “Hosanna!”
And victory is drawing nigh. [Refrain]
