From this American writer there is a mutilated fragment in Stryker's College Hymnal, 1904: "The morn, O Christian, breaketh o'er thee" (Death and Heaven anticipated). In H. W. Beecher's Plymouth Collection, 1855, this hymn begins “Christian, the morn breaks sweetly o'er thee." It is usually dated 1832.
