John Glass Bartholomew was born in Pompey (Onondaga Co.) NY, February 28, 1834. His family attended the Universalist Church, and they sent him to Clinton Liberal Institute where he prepared for the ministry. He pastored churches for twenty years in Upper Lisle and Oxford, New York; Aurora, Illinois; Roxbury, Massachusetts; Brooklyn, New York; Auburn, New York; Syracuse, New York; and then Newark, New Jersey.
