If Christ Should Come

1 If the Christ should come to me,
As of old in Galilee,
From His home in Paradise,
Come again in lowly guise,
If He walked once more on earth,
As a Man of lowly birth,
And should one day come to me,
Would I know that it was He?

2 If upon the busy street,
He and I should chance to meet,
Would my heart by its appeal
Thus the Christ to me reveal?
Would He kindly as of yore
Seek the lowly and the poor,

3 Would there be an outward sign,
That would mark the Man divine,
Who His life so freely gave,
On the cross the world to save?
Would I know the Crucified,
By the wounded hands and side,
If He came again to me,
