Representative Text

1 I dream’d that a stranger once came to my door,
And He waited my guest to be,
A wonderful look on His face He wore,
Of compassion and love for me.

Refrain:
O wonderful dream, O beautiful dream,
That ev’ry one can make true,
He is living with me, my Saviour is He,
Will you ask Him to live with you?

2 I felt at a glance He would be my friend,
That my life would be full of cheer,
The visit began, never more to end,
For the Christ is my comrade dear. [Refrain]

3 Let Jesus be Guest in your home today,
Just to know Him will be to live.
A soul full of song will be yours alway,
That the Saviour alone can give. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
