Hvo ene lader Herren raade

Representative Text

1 Hvo ene lader Herren raade,
Og sætter fuldt til ham sin Lid,
Den vil han fri af alskens Vaade,
Og redde af al Nød og Strid,
Hvo al sin Lid til Himlen slaar,
Hans Hus paa sandig Grund ei staar.

2 Hvad hjælper os vor Sorg og Klage?
Hvad hjælper os vor Ak og Ve?
Hvad hjælper, at vi alle Dage
Bejamre vor Bedrøvelse?
Vi fylde kun for Modgangs Skaal
Med sligt unyttigt Klagemaal.

3 Staa, kristen Sjæl, kun lidet stille,
Og vær fornøiet i din Gud,
Alt som hans vise Naade-Vilje
Og Forsyn deler al Ting ud;
Den gode Gud, vor Skabermand
Bedst skjønner, havd os fattes kan.

4 Han kjender det, vort Bedste fremmer,
Han veed den rette Trøste-Tid,
Naar han vor Troskab kun fornemmer,
Og merker ingen Hykler-Id,
Saa kommer han, før vi det se,
Og vil da meget godt os te.

5 Tænk ei i dine store Plager,
At Herren haver dig forladt,
Og sig af den alene tager,
Som Lykken har i al Ting fat;
Med Tiden meget vender sig,
Den sætter Maal for mig og dig.

6 Det er og Gud slet ingen Møie,
Og koster bare ham et Ord,
Den, som er fattig, at ophøie,
En Rig at støde ned til Jord;
Gud er den Undergjernings-Mand,
Snart reise op, snart fælde kan.

7 Syng, bed og lyd, hvad Herren siger,
Vær i dig Kald vinskibelig,
Og tro, ved Gud din Velfærd stiger,
Saa sker det ogsaa visselig;
Thi hvo sin Lid paa gud har sat,
Han vorder ei af ham forladt.

Author: Georg Neumark

Georg Neumark (b. Langensalza, Thuringia, Germany, 1621; d. Weimar, Germany, 1681) lived during the time of the Thirty Years' War, when social and economic conditions were deplorable. He had personal trials as well. On his way to Königsberg to study at the university, traveling in the comparative safety of a group of merchants, he was robbed of nearly all his possessions. During the next two years he spent much of his time looking for employment. He finally secured a tutoring position in Kiel. When he had saved enough money, he returned to the University of Königsberg and studied there for five years. In Königsberg he again lost all his belongings, this time in a fire.
