Honor, loor y gloria

Representative Text

Estribillo:
Honor, loor y gloria
Al Rey y Redentor,
Aquien los niños daban
Hosannas con fervor.

1 Tú eres Rey de Israel
Y prole de David,
Que en nombre de Dis vienes
Al mundo a redimir. [Estribillo]

2 El coro de los cielos
Te alaba con fervor,
Y el hombre y lo creado
También te dan loor. [Estribillo]

3 Te recibió con palmas
El pueblo hebreo fiel,
Nosotros hoy lo hacemos
Con cánticos también. [Estribillo]

4 Te dieron alabanzas
Poco antes de morir,
Nosotros te cantamos
Reinantes ya sin fin. [Estribillo]

5 Si ellos te agradaron,
Agrádete también;
Danos la fe sincera,
Oh tú, clemente Rey. [Estribillo]

---

Refrain:
All glory, laud and honor
To you, Redeemer King!
To whom the lips of children
Made sweet hosannas ring.

1 You are the King of Israel,
And David's royal Son,
Now in the Lord's name coming,
Our King and Blessed One. [Refrain]

Author: Theodulf, Bishop of Orléans

Theodulph of Orleans appears to have been a native of Italy. He was brought to France by Charles the Great, perhaps when Charles returned from Italy in 781. He became Bishop of Orleans about 785, and soon afterwards also Abbot of Fleury. After the death of Charles he continued for some time on friendly terms with the Emperor Louis, but, falling under suspicion of being concerned in the plot in favour of Bernard of Italy, was imprisoned in 818, at Angers, where he seems to have died in 821, apparently on Sep. 18. There is a full and interesting sketch of his life and works in the Dictionary of Chr. Biog., iii., pp. 983-989. See also Potthast's Biblical History, Medii Aevi, 1896, vol. ii., p. 1058.
