Representative Text

1 Homeward bound! a restless ocean crossing—
Life’s great open sea,
Wind and wave our fragile barks are tossing,
Unafraid are we.
What though clouds may darkly roll above us?
What tho’ shoals surround?
Homeward, homeward, homeward we are bound.

Chorus:
We’re homeward bound, we are homeward bound,
To the haven of that golden land,
Where the many mansions waiting stand,
We’re homeward bound, conquered by the sound—
Homeward, homeward, homeward we are bound.

2 Homeward bound! and Christ the Pilot steering,
All the journey through;
On we sail with heart and soul unfearing,
Staunch and strong and true.
At His voice the threat’ning storms are banished,
Conquered by the sound.
Homeward, homeward, homeward we are bound. [Chorus]

3 Homeward bound! to realms that beckon yonder,
Far across the foam,
Never from our Father’s side to wander,
nevermore to roam.
Where He dwells in light and joy eternal,
There shall we be found.
Homeward, homeward, homeward we are bound. [Chorus]
