Turney, Edward, D.D., an American Baptist minister, was born at Easton (then Weston), Connecticut, May 6, 1816, and graduated at Madison University, New York. He was successively pastor at Hartford and at Granville, Ohio (1842-47); Professor of Biblical Criticism, Madison University, 1850, and also of Biblical Literature at Fairmount Theological Seminary, Cincinnati (1853-58). Subsequently he taught in Washington, District of Columbia. He died at Washington, Sept. 28, 1872. He published Baptismal Hymn, 1862, and Memorial Poems and Hymns, 1864. Of these hymns the following are in common use:— 1. Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus. Peace and Rest in Jesus. 2. Come to Jesus, little one (1860). Invitation. 3.
