The Angel of the Lord

God sends a tender message

Representative Text

1 God sends a tender message
For ev’ry time of need;
His loving care is written
In ev’ry kindly deed.
However deep the shadows,
There’s one clear ray of light;
For God sends forth his angels
To guard us day and night.

Refrain:
They come from fields of glory,
With beams of joy and light;
For God sends forth his angels
To guard us, day and night.

2 If paths of duty lead us
Where snares are thickly set,
Where danger and temptation
Are like the fowler’s net,
yet still with faith and courage
Our journey we pursue;
For God sends forth his angel
To lead us safely through. [Refrain]

3 Life has its time of bondage,
When, like a prison wall,
Some grievous sin or sorrow
Our weary hearts enthrall.
But light gleams thro’ the darkness,
The chains are swept aside;
When God sends forth his angel;
The prison doors swing wide. [Refrain]

4 If through some fiery furnace
Our shrinking feet must go,
Be sure in each affliction
Some mercy he’ll bestow.
Our faith may rest completely
On God’s almighty name;
For His own angel leads us
Safe thro’ the fiercest flame. [Refrain]
