¡Gloria a Dios!

Representative Text

1 ¡Gloria a Dios! porque su gracia
En nosotros abundó,
Y su fiel misericordia
En nosotros se mostró.

2 ¡Gloria a Dios! pues Él no mira
Nuestra vieja iniquidad;
Bondadoso nos reviste
De justicia y santidad.

3 ¡Gloria a Dios! que de fe pura
Llena nuestro corazón,
Y del Hijo que ama tanto
Nos concede el sumo don.

4 ¡Gloria a Dios! que aquí nos une
En perfecta y dulce paz,
Por su diestra protegidos
Alumbrados por su faz.

5 ¡Gloria a Dios! a quien complace
Recibir nuestra oración,
Nuestros cantos de alabanza,
Nuestra pura adoración.

6 ¡Gloria a Dios! que en abundancia
Bendiciones hoy nos da;
Si esto Él hace aquí en la tierra,
En los cielos ¿qué no hará?

BETHANY (Smart)

BETHANY, named after the village near Jerusalem, is a suitably dramatic tune for the song text. It was composed by Henry Smart (b. Marylebone, London, England, 1813; d. Hampstead, London, 1879), a capable composer of church music who wrote some very fine hymn tunes (REGENT SQUARE, 354, is the best-k…
