Er ist vollbracht

Representative Text

1 Es ist vollbracht! Er ist verschieden,
mein Jesus schließt die Augen zu;
der Friedefürst entschläft in Frieden;
die Lebenssonne geht zur Ruh
und sinkt in stille Todesnacht.
o großes Wort: Es ist vollbracht.

2 Es ist vollbracht! Er hat’s gesprochen,
das ewge Wort muß sprachlos sein,
das Herz der Treue wird gebrochen,
den Fels des Heils umfaßt ein Stein,
die höchste Kraft ist nun verschmacht’.
o wahres Wort: Es ist vollbracht.

3 Es ist vollbracht! Schweig, mein Gewissen,
ihr Sünden, schreiet nun nicht mehr.
Das große Schuldbuch ist zerrissen,
des Sohnes Blut erlangt Gehör;
am Kreuz hat's Freiden uns gemacht.
O tröslich Wort: Est is vollbracht.

He died at Weimar July 11, 1725 (Koch, v. 420-426; Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, vii. 213-214; Schauer's introduction, &c.) He was a member of the Fruitbearing Society, and the author of a considerable number of secular po… Go to person page >
