Die Himmel tönen Gottes Preis

Die Himmel tönen Gottes Preis

Author: Carl Bernhard Garve
Published in 2 hymnals

Representative Text

1. Die Himmel tönen Gottes Preis,
Ihn predigt jeder Erdenkreis,
Wohin der Blick sich wendet. –
Doch wohl dem Lande, wohl dem Ort,
Dem Gott Sein teures Lebenswort
Durch Geist und Schrift gesendet!
Richtig, Wichtig, Herzerfreuend, Trost verleihend
Sind der Seele Gottes Lehren und Befehle.

2. Wenn Erd‘ und Weltkreis untergeht,
Das feste Wort des Herrn besteht
Und gibt uns Himmelsspeise;
Es leuchtet unserm Erdenpfad,
Gewährt dem Schwachen Kraft und Rat,
Und macht die Einfalt weise.
Gutes Mutes Dringt der Glaube, Los vom Staube,
Mit dem Worte Aus dem Tod zur Lebenspforte.

3. Es lebe Jesu Christi Ruhm!
Sein ewig’ Evangelium
Müss’ alle Welt durchtönen!
Mit Engelsschwingen flieht es schon,
Ruft durch die Welt mit süßem Ton:
„Lasst euch mit Gott versöhnen!“
Amen, Amen! Menschen alle, Folgt dem Schalle,
Dass die Erde Euch durch Ihn zum Himmel werde.

In 1784 he was appointed one of the tutors at Niesky, and in 1789 at Barby; but as his philosophical lectures were thought rather unsettling in their tendency, he was sent, in 1797, to arrange the documents of the archive at Zeist. After his ordination as diaconus of the Moravian church, he was appointed, in 1799, preacher at Amsterdam; in 1801 at Ebersdorf (where he was also inspector of the training school); in 1809 at Berlin; and in 1816 at Neusalza on the Oder.
