Face the Foe

Courage, soldiers, courage! Forward, march away!

Author: Julia H. Johnston
Tune: [Courage, soldiers, courage! Forward, march away!]
Published in 1 hymnal

Representative Text

1 Courage, soldiers, courage! Forward, march away!
Face the foes that threaten, Do not dare delay.
Fight the battle bravely, Christ is watching near,
Under this Commander you have naught to fear.

Chorus:
Courage, courage, tho' the foe be strong,
Forward, ever forward, march against the wrong;
Onward, onward, trusting as you go,
Jesus goes before you as you face the foe.

2 Courage, youthful soldiers! See, upon your path,
Envy, pride, and hatred, Selfishness and wrath;
Speedily they gather, ready for the fight,
Meet them and defeat them in the Saviour's might. [Chorus]

3 Fight the giant evils, Never pause or shrink;
Fight the love of money, Fight the love of drink.
March against them boldly, put the foe to flight,
Take the gospel armor and defend the right. [Chorus]
