1 Arise, ye saints, arise!
The Lord our Leader is;
The foe before his banner flies,
And victory is his.
2 We follow thee, our Guide,
Our Saviour, and our King!
We follow thee, through grace supplied
From heaven's eternal spring.
3 We soon shall see the day
When all our toils shall cease;
When we shall cast our arms away,
And dwell in endless peace.
4 This hope supports us here;
It makes our burdens light;
'Twill serve our drooping hearts to cheer,
Till faith shall end in sight.
5 Till, of the prize possessed,
We hear of war no more;
And ever with our Leader rest,
On yonder peaceful shore.

Arise, ye saints, arise. T. Kelly. [Christ the Leader.] First published in the 3rd edition of his Hymns on V. P. of Scripture, 1809, No. 77, in 7 stanzas of 4 lines, and headed, “He teacheth my hands to war," Ps. xviii. 34. In 1812 it was taken out of the above, and included in Kelly's Hymns adapted for Social Worship, No. 88, but subsequently it was restored to the original work. Full text in Hymns, M. Moses, Dublin, 1853, No. 253. As in common use both in Great Britain and America, it is in an abbreviated form, but the arrangement of stanzas differs in various collections.
