Amikon karan mi serĉadi iras

Representative Text

1. Amikon karan mi serĉadi iras.
De la tagiĝ' mi ĉiam pli sopiras,
Sed lin ne trovis ĝis vespera horo
la arda koro.

2. Mi vidas spuron, kie spiko plena
sin mole klinas, kie flor' ĝardena
parfumas venton, eĉ en spiro mia
la amo lia.

3. Mi aŭdas lin en la susur' somera,
arbara himno kaj la flu' rivera.
Plej dolĉe li en mia kor' parolas
kaj min konsolas.

4. Sed ve, lin kaŝas for de mi nebulo,
atingas preĝo lin sed ne okulo.
Ke mi lin vidu! Metu koron mian
sur bruston lian!

5. Ho, se belegas tiel ĉiu guto
de l' tera vivo, de l' kreita tuto,
do kiel bela, fonto senkompara,
eterne klara!

Author: Johan Olof Wallin

Johan Olaf Wallin was born at Stora Tuna, in 1779, and early displayed his poetical powers. In 1805, and again in 1809, he gained the chief prize for poetry at Upsala. In 1818 he was made Dean of Westeras, and set about the task of editing a revised hymn-book for the whole of Sweden. This task he completed in 1819, and published it as, Den Swenska Psalmboken, af Konungen gillad och stadfästad (The Swedish hymn-book, approved and confirmed by the King). To it he contributed some 150 hymns of his own, besides translations and recasting… Go to person page >
