Believe As Ye Pray

All things whatsoever your heart shall desire

Author: Mrs. C. H. Morris
Tune: [All things whatsoever your heart shall desire]
Published in 1 hymnal

Representative Text

1 All things whatsoever your heart shall desire,
God promises ye shall receive them;
If when ye of Him shall steadfastly inquire,
Ye steadfastly too will believe Him.

Refrain:
Believe when ye pray, believe when ye pray,
And steadfastly keep on believing;
Believe when ye pray, for this is God’s way,
And steadfastly keep on believing.

2 Come just as you are, whatsoever you need,
Your poverty to Him confessing;
Come just as you are and His promises plead,
Receiving His fullness of blessing. [Refrain]

3 For all things are possible, still He doth say
To him who on Jesus believeth;
Then ask what ye will and believe when ye pray,
For whoso thus asketh, receiveth. [Refrain]

Author: Mrs. C. H. Morris

Lelia (Mrs. C.H.) Morris (1862-1929) was born in Pennsville, Morgan County, Ohio. When her family moved to Malta on the Muskingum River she and her sister and mother had a millinery shop in McConnelsville. She and her husband Charles H. Morris were active in the Methodist Episcopal Church and at the camp meetings in Sebring and Mt. Vernon. She wrote hymns as she did her housework. Although she became blind at age 52 she continued to write hymns on a 28-foot long blackboard that her family had built for her. She is said to have written 1000 texts and many tunes including "Sweeter as the years go by." Mary Louise VanDyke Go to person page >
