Hodges, George Samuel, B.A., born at Walmer in 1827, educated at Jesus College, Cambridge. In 1882 he was preferred to the Vicarage of Stubbings, near Maidenhead. His principal work is The County Palatine and Other Poems Sacred and Secular, 1876. In it appeared several translations from the Latin, from English into Latin, and original pieces, including his children's hymn for Palm Sunday, "Hosanna we sing like the children dear," which is also in the 1875 edition of Hymns Ancient & Modern. A hymn for Lent, "All my sins uprising now," is in the Durham Mission Hymn Book, 1885, and others. His fine offertory hymn "Eternal! assembled with songs of thanksgiving," written to Dr. Dykes's tune "St. Leonards," was first sung at a Gregorian Festival… Go to person page >
