This anthem is literally a "new song" on the familiar line of "Sing to the Lord a New Song" from Psalm 98 and Psalm 150. Based on the exciting rhythmic shifts of hemiola, the energetic choral parts are at all times supported by the colorful keyboard accompaniment. The final verse consists of a canon between the women's and men's parts, and leads to a brilliant declamation of "Sing a New Song" with a Picardy third.
