George Thomas Caldbeck

Born in Waterford, Ireland, he attended the National Model School, Waterford, and Islington Theological College. His desire to be a missionary was thwarted by his poor health. He returned to Cork and became a schoolmaster and evangelist in ireland. In 1888 he moved to London as an independent itinerant preacher. He was arrested in 1912 for selling scripture cards door to door without a license. The judge dismissed the case upon learning he was composer of the hymn tune” Pax Tecum.”. At the time he was living in a church hostel. He died in Epsom, Surrey. John Perry

Born in Linesville, PA, his family moved to Gustavus, OH, when he was four. His father was an accomplished violinist, but a neighbor gave him a small violin when he was nine, and he mastered it before he could read music. At age 16 he went to singing school (without parental consent), borrowing the money from a neighbor. C. A. Bentley, a prominent conductor, was his first vocal music instructor, and William Bradbury's “Jubilee” was the school textbook. For three winters in a row, he attended Bentley's singing school, working his father's farm in the summer. He married Annie Williams. In 1866 he studied music in Boston with B. F. Baker. He also studied under George Root, Horatio Palmer, Philip Bliss, George Webb, and others, hymnwriters in their own right. Soon after, Case began teaching music, and when James McGranahan moved two miles from his home, they became friends. Case wrote and edited a number of Gospel song books in his life. 6 works. Thomas Koschat

1845 - 1914 Person Name: T. Koschat Hymnal Number: 219 Composer of "EPHRATAH" in El Himnario para el uso de las Iglesias Evangelicas de Habla Espanola en Todo el Mundo Thomas Koschat Austria 1845-1914. Born at Viktring, Austria, he studied chemistry in Vienna (1865-67). A Roman Catholic, in 1866 he joined the Vienna State Opera and sang bass in the Hofoper (court opera) Choir, and eventually became choir director. In 1874 he joined the choir at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. In 1877 he joined the Hofmusikkapelle (choir) and served as a soloist there. From 1877-1906 he founded and sang with the Koschat Quintet, touring Europe and America extensively. He was well-known for his ‘Karntnerlider’ Carinthian folk songs. Emperor Wilhelm awarded him the ‘Adler Order of the Red Eagle’. He wrote several books and also published a book of poems in the Carinthian dialect. He died in Vienna, Austria. He was a musician, author, composer, librettist, adapter, and contributor. John Perry

He emigrated to America in 1876 and settled in Albany, New York. He developed a chorus and directed the music at St. Agnes School, and played the organ at the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral.
