Lyrics: 1 Arise, O Christian people! Prepare yourselves today; Prepare to greet the Savior, Who takes you sins away. To us by grace alone The truth and light were given; The promised Lord from heaven To all the world is shown. 2 Prepare the way before Him; Prepare for Him the best. Cast out what would offend Him, This great, this heav'nly guest. Make straight, make plain the way: The lowly valleys raising, The heights of pride abasing, His path, all even lay. 3 The humble heart and lowly God raises up on high; Beneath His feet in terror The haughty soul shall lie. The heart sincere and right, That heeds God's invitation And makes true preparation-- It is the Lord's delight. 4 Prepare my heart, Lord Jesus; Turn not from me aside, And help me to receive You This blessed Advent-tide. From stall and manger low Come now to dwell within me; I'll sing Your praises gladly And forth Your glory show. Used With Tune: AUS MEINES HERZENS GRUNDE

Down by the Jordan

Author: Carolyn Winfrey Gillette Meter: 14.14.4.7.8 Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Luke 3:1-22 First Line: Down by the Jordan, a prophet named John was baptizing Lyrics: Down by the Jordan, a prophet named John was baptizing, Preaching a message the people found bold and surprising: "God will forgive! Show that you'll change how you live! Surely God's new day is rising!" There by the river, the crowd came with great expectation: "Are you God's Chosen One, sent here to rescue our nation?" "No!" John replied. "He who is mightier than I Judges and offers salvation." Jesus, you went to be baptized with all of the others, Taking your place among sinners, God's lost sons and daughters. Then with great love, God's Spirit came as a dove! Your work began in those waters. Here in the Church, we are baptized and filled with God's Spirit. Freed and forgiven, we're welcomed with joy! Can you hear it? This is God's sign! This is how God says, "You're mine!" Let's take the good news and share it! Topics: Baptism; Church Year; Jesus Christ Ministry Used With Tune: LOBE DEN HERREN
