Joseph Swain born in 1723 in Reading, Mass, graduated at Harvard College in 1744; was schoolmaster at Reading in 1746; was ordained as pastor of the Congregationalist Church at Wenham, Mass in 1750. He was the author of several hymns. He was pastor of his church for forty-two years, until he died June 27, 1792.
