Rhodes, Sarah Betts, née Bradshaw, wife of a Sheffield merchant, wrote "God Who made the earth" (Sunday School Festival) for the Sheffield Sunday School Union Whitsuntide Festival, 1870. The tune also was by Mrs. Rhodes. The hymn is in several collections, including the Methodist Sunday School Hymnbook, 1879, &c.
